In January 2009, technology journalist Bill Thompson was among the attendees at the BGDD final annual plenary. Over the two days, the 4 projects reported back on their emerging findings and reflected upon their experiences over the last few years. We also heard from Paula Koetze of the Meraka Institute and Gary Marsden of the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Paula and Gary shared their experiences of technology design with rural and less advantaged communities in and offered their approaches to dealing with problems of cultural distance, community acceptance and technical challenges.
